Let God Cleanse You Of Your Sins

Introduction
This object lessons will work best with children under about 10 years old. The idea is to demonstrate that sins really are hard to carry around and it is easy to give your sins to God through repentance. Sin stops people from doing "Good Deeds" and from living a Godly life.     Write one sin on each small board (see Set-up) and pile the boards with the same sins together (all of the HATE boards together and so on). Have the kids take a board (sin) from each pile. Each child should have both hands full of sins at this point. Do not over load the kids, but they should have both hands full. Then have them pick up a "Good Deed" piece of paper while holding the boards. They cannot put the boards down to pick up the paper. Have each kid try to give their 'Good Deed" to someone else in the class. But they must do the good dead while they still have the boards in their hands. The idea is that each kids has their hands full of boards (sins) and tries to pick up a piece of paper with their finger tips and hand the paper to someone else. The sins (boards) get in their way and make it hard to do anything. After a few minutes of holding the boards they will be tired and want to put them down, but you need to have them try to do a "Good Deed" before they put the boards down. The burden of sin can stop anyone from doing good things and living a Godly life.
Only God can cleanse you of your sins. Explain repentance and how God cleans us of our sins. Have all of the kids put their Sins (Boards) down and then try to do a "Good Deed" for someone.
Set-up:
Use lots of small 2" x 4" boards cut into small blocks about 6 - 12" long work the best. Be sure to sand and smooth the blocks so that no one gets a splinter. The blocks do not have to be the same size. You can tell the kids that some lies seem to be small and some seem to be big but they are all lies. Check with the carpenters in your church for some of their scraps. You may be able to get some free scraps from your local lumberyard. Take a magic marker and write one sin on each wood block (hate, lying, stealing, murder, and so on). You will need enough wooden blocks for each kid to have several and each kid can have more then one of each kind of sin. The idea is to give each kid a real hand full to carry, but do not over load anyone. We do not want anyone to get hurt!
Also take some small pieces of paper and write a "Good Deed" on each one (clean your room, help with the dishes, do your home work, etc.).
Here are some helpful verses:

John 3: 16

16. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 10: 9 - 10

9.That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10.For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

1 Peter 5: 7 - 9

7.Cast your anxiety (cares) on Him because he cares for you.
8.Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
9.Resist him, stand firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Matthew 11: 28 - 30

28.Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30.For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

1 John 1: 5 - 10

5.This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6.If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
7.But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8.If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
10.If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

John 10: 10 - 11

10.The thief (Satan) comes only in order that he may steal and may kill and may destroy. I (Jesus) came that they (you) may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance -to the full, till it overflows.
11.I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd risks and lays down his (own) life for the sheep (you).
